Aldous Leonard Huxley was an English writer and philosopher. Educated at Oxford, he began with poetry, short fiction, and literary editing before becoming known for novels, travel writing, essays, and screen work. He spent much of his later life in the United States and became one of the best-known intellectual figures of the twentieth century, especially for writings on dystopia, religion, mysticism, and altered consciousness.
