Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888) was an American writer born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Raised in Boston and Concord by Bronson and Abigail Alcott, she began writing early and later became known for Little Women, its sequels, and a wide range of short fiction and children's books. She also served as a Civil War nurse and published some sensation fiction under the pseudonym A. M. Barnard.
